Norma Tanega was an American folk and pop singer-songwriter, painter, and experimental musician.
Her breakthrough came with her first single in 1966, the international hit "Walkin' My Cat Named Dog", which was followed by here debut of the same title. Many covers and international translations were made of her songs from her debut.
In 1966, Tanega came to the UK on a promotional tour which led to her meeting Dusty Springfield on the tv show Ready Steady Go! Which lead a long personal and professional relationship, with Dusty Springfield recording a number of Norma’s songs.
With RCA Records in the UK Norma recorded here second album, I Don’t Think It Will Hurt If You Smile. Re-releases of this album feature tracks from the Standard Music Library album, ESL177 – Folk Music.
Later Norma worked predominantly as a percussionist, playing various styles with bands including Baboonz, hybridVigor, and Ceramic Ensemble.
Her song "You're Dead" as used as the theme for the film and subsequent tv series What We Do In The Shadows.
Norma passed away aged 80 in 2019
