Composer Spotlight - Max Harris

Max Harris (1918 – 2004) was a prolific writer, arranger and musician, composing music for radio, film and TV from the 1950s until the 1980s, famously composing  the theme tunes for 'Porridge' and 'The Strange World Of Gurney Slade' (which hit no. 11 in the UK charts). Max provided a large amount of music for London Weekend Television/Standard Music Library, including the title themes for 'New Scotland Yard', 'Bank Robbers', 'Diamond Crack Diamond' and 'Big Brother'.

On the 15th anniversary of his passing, we’ve put a little playlist showcasing some of the fantastic music he did for Standard: Big Band, Brass Band and solo piano, including 'Oh Mr. Jelly', a homage to his favourite pianist, Jelly Roll Morton.
